Stéphane Cipre
Born in Paris in 1968 and living on the French Riviera since the age of four, Stéphane Cipre developed his artistic vision through fine arts and art history studies before launching his career in 1997. His early works, marked by academic figuration, gradually evolved toward a radical graphic expression. Then came the revelation: writing naturally found its way into his work, as if it were meant to be. From then on, words and what they represent merged into a single visual entity, where the signified and the signifier became inseparable. With surgical precision, Cipre modulates typography so that the subject appears through the letters that designate it.
Beyond this formal feat, it is "art as commodity" that fuels his most incisive reflections. Deeply affected by the disappearance of the local shops and artisans of his youth, the artist thumbs his nose at rampant globalization. What should remain immaterial and priceless is paradoxically valued as a mundane consumer product. His sculptures of the letters ART, strapped, compressed, sequenced, or placed on shipping pallets, denounce with biting irony this dissonant reality where everything becomes commerce.
A consummate artist of his generation, Stéphane Cipre combines digital creation with manual production in his studio, mastering the entire creative process. His work now shines across five continents, appealing to prestigious foundations and discerning collectors in search of contemporary art that both questions and fascinates.
