Kris Ankamah
Born in 1996, Kris Ankamah is a self-taught artist of Mauritian origin. His love for art was born when he went to study in Australia. He then saw it as therapy. Her work challenges formal and traditional learning of fine art.
In 2019, he exhibited for the first time for underprivileged children and guided them during artistic workshops, in collaboration with the Hennessy Park hotel (Mauritius), on the occasion of the Art For A Cause event. In 2020, he exhibited for the exhibition Unlocked at the Caudan Arts Centre (Mauritius). Jean Claude Baissac (J.C. Baissac) was his main source of inspiration in his early days. He quickly realized the influence of J.C. Baissac's philosophy on his artistic work; Kris, too, wants to maintain a form of pure naivety in his artistic work and it is important for him to cultivate shapes and the play of colors through his works. Its objective is to give resonance and depth. These colors coexist independently and cancel each other out, in order to assign a single reading.
Kris is a lonely artist, he has erected a barrier between the outside world and himself. His recognizable works, works of abstract and modern art that transport you into his own world are sometimes with a certain lightness or heaviness. Kris challenges his creative ability to the point of going beyond working on paper, he also expresses himself through photography, in pastel on slate or rusty sheet metal.
