François Vandenberghe
Strongly influenced by a 27-year stay in Gabon, he achieved sporting glory there, winning several championship titles in both motorcycle and automobile racing. François Vandenberghe was also the creator and expedition leader of the famous Challenge de l'Equateur, voted event of the year in 1986. It was around this time that he really came into contact with elephants. François Vandenberghe then returned to his homeland and, since 1995, has devoted himself exclusively to visual art.
Elephants remain a favorite subject for the artist, who stages them in allegories that he masks behind a troubling appearance of reality. "Man makes noise, but his earth speaks! ". This quotation from a friend of the sculptor's sums up the personality of this artist who succeeds in delivering a message, constantly renewed, on the theme of Elephants.
