François Vandenberghe
Highly influenced by a very long 27-year stay in Gabon, he achieved sporting glory there, winning several championship titles in both motorcycling and automobiles. François Vandenberghe was also the creator and expedition leader of the famous Equator Challenge, voted event of the year in 1986. It was around this time that he truly encountered elephants. François Vandenberghe then returned to his country of origin and has devoted himself exclusively to visual art since 1995.
Elephants remain the artist's favorite subject, which he stages in allegories that he masks behind a disturbing appearance of reality. “Man makes noise, but his earth speaks!” This quote from a friend of the sculptor sums up the personality of this artist quite well, who manages to deliver a constantly renewed message on the theme of Elephants.
